GitHub Version Control won't commit and push

Since early on 1st November, the button to 'Commit & push' is not working.
- I type in what I have changed
- press the button
- the textarea gets cleared, but it doesn't actually commit and push to the GitHub repo.

I created a branch,merged it and deleted remotely on github,but when I pulled commits from remote it did not remove the old branch.
