Any plans on releasing an app? I write python on the site, but when I'm away from the computer and want to add something to my code, I can't do it from the mobile site as it is very difficult to select, copy or paste code from a mobile browser.
How, and what for do you guys use replit on your mobile? can you tell me more please?
@Haya: School. My wife prefers, if possible, to not have to take her computer to school (due to weight) and used her iPad during last term's Python class (Pythonista app). It worked well.
The options this term for Java aren't that good. She tried Repl.it, but it didn't work well due to UI issues. The main issue is that at some points, pressing anything on the keyboard just scrolled to the bottom of the page instead of typing in the box. We've seen this on a number of web IDEs in the past.
A native app for iOS (and Android) would go a long way to help the issues. With the features offered, you would be head and shoulders over the iOS IDE competitors too!
Note: requiring the app to be online to work is fine - the front end just needs to be better for mobile.
Hey Jason, thanks for the feedback! Mobile support is something that we could definitely do better. If you don't mind, I'd like to probe you more on your experience - specifically around hidden login fields, or overlapping CSS elements? Any screenshots would be super helpful. I checked on my own device and by resizing the browser and couldn't find anything off with the login/signup system.
Thanks for your feedback, and you do have a point, we understand that it might not work perfectly on other tools, for now, we try our best to make Repl.it responsive and technically working on other tools. mobile and iPad's is something we can definitely work on it in the future :)
I'm terribly sorry for this experience. Enhancing mobile is one the things that we'll fix soon.
Hello Repl.it! First off, I'll say that I love the new enhancements to the site! I've been using your system to perform interactive coding interviews for quite some time and I've really liked the experience that your site provides. It's a good mix of technical and high level that lets people get started with coding exercises quickly without the overhead of an IDE.
However you are now claiming, on your landing page, that the site works on all device types. I'm here to tell you that while you might be technically correct the user experience on mobile and tablet devices is so poor that the site is unusable and it makes you guys look bad that you claim "it works on mobile". A few quick points to help clarify, your reactive css is not reacting properly... login fields get hidden, css elements overlap each other, you press one button and another actually gets clicked because the sizing is all wonky. I'd really recommend either fixing your site and building a proper mobile experience or removing that section.
(mobile experience was tested on 3 different models of iphone and on 2 modern models of ipads. A number of us were trying to review the same code while on mobile devices and all of us encountered the same issues, some more prevelent on certain )
Thanks,
Jason
yes you're right, and we'll fix it.
You should be able to copy and paste on mobile by tapping and holding the text like in any other website.
Experience is pretty bad on mobile browsers. A native iOS app that handled keyboard input better would be great.
I agree, maybe android too, if you guys know java or swift
