add an option to save code as file, on the client's computer
Yeah, we plan on adding that.
@Haya: Any progress or an eta on this feature?
Best would be to allow users to download a zip of their scripts for local use.
@Ibrahim-Islam: We'll get into this soon at some point. we'll add some features and polish thing around with new dashboard for sessions.
Downloading Repls and files is out. The icon is on the bottom left corner. Let us know how you like it!
@Haya: Is there any way to download unrecognized files from a multi-file Repl?
@pizzapants111: what language is this? Yes you are suppose to be able to download files in project mode
@Haya: It is a C Repl, and the file is a PPM (*) Image file.
For PNG files, I can right-click the image for the option to download it, but unrecognized files don't show this option (that I can see).
@pizzapants111: Thanks for drawing this to our attention. PPM files will now be displayed as text.
@Haya: The Download button is pretty hard to see over there. why not put it next to the upload, debug, and libraries toolbar?
@Haya: Is there any way to download all the files as a zip?
@Akbar Mirza: it's not a button that people keep clicking on it, it should be as high priority as the other buttons. correct me if I'm wrong
@solly_ucko: not really, it depends on how many people want this feature. there is no open issue for it right now, feel free to open a new post about it, and if many votes come in we'll build it
@Haya: Yeah that sounds right. It would make the most sense next to those buttons, as opposed to having it be in a completely different location. It's kind of confusing for your visual hierarchy having it tucked in the bottom left corner.
@Akbar Mirza: It's not about visual hierarchy, it's about usability. How many times is that icon clicked? How many times per repl? it should be as compatible as the other icons are next to it. this is how I think about it.
@Haya: in terms of usability, it's very disorienting that the button is almost hidden. To find it, I had to google if repl.it had a download feature and that led me to find this page that explained where it was. Whereas, organically, I should've been able to find it in one of the locations where I interact with repl.it by clicking a button.
@Akbar Mirza: ok you got me thinking. I'll think about it. thanks for leting me know about your experience
@Akbar Mirza: I dont even see it, where is it??
@samsnarr: on the bottom left corner, we'll be changing things around soon
@Haya: I am using it now on project mode and there is no button for download anymore? Check it out
@Haya: The download button is no longer there. Bring it back please!
@paulmarshall: do you see it? It's on the top right corner
@Haya: I found it on the top right corner next to the other buttons but when I click the button to download it nothing happens
We changed the location of the button, it's on the top right, next to the other icons depending on the language you're using
@Haya: Thanks for changing the location but it was not there for over a week. I would prefer that the download file is not zipped, as it used to be that way before the move. We are working in python and a zipped file adds an extra layer of complication.
@paulmarshall: Sorry about that. What kind of complications? How do you use the repls? and do you use multiple files?
@Haya: I also request the ability to download as a file instead of a zipped file.
@Haya: I'm afraid I don't see a download button anywhere. Is it because it's an assignment piece?
If so, I'd like to request that assignments are allowed to be downloaded. I have done some code that I would like to keep and s you most likely know, copy/pasting code from Repl does not work.
@Adam_Kay_: Hi Adam - you can export the assignment to a repl, and then if need be, download it from the repl.
I'd also like to probe you more about copy-pasting code from Repl.it not working? What happens when you try to copy-paste?
@Haya: the download is not working for me, I click it and nothing happens
@JeremyRubz: Are you blocking pop-ups by any chance? It opens a new tab (for a second) to download the file.
@Tim Chen: Just tried turning off pop-up blocker and it still didnt do anything
@JeremyRubz: Are you seeing any errors in the console when you click it?
@Tim Chen: Nope, nothing happens at all.
@JeremyRubz: Oh, I see what you're saying now. Sorry - it was working locally for me. Sorry about that - looking into it now.
@timmy_i_chen: Ok, please let me know when it is fixed. My assignment is due today and really need to download it ASAP
@JeremyRubz: As a temporary workaround, add .zip to the end of the URL and it should download
@timmy_i_chen: Still not working..
@JeremyRubz: Do you have a link to the repl?
@Tim Chen: https://repl.it/@JeremyRubz/Lab3zip
@JeremyRubz: https://repl.it/@JeremyRubz/Lab3zip.zip is working for me - downloads a zip file. Does it work for you?
download features move to treefile. What is that mean? I can't figure out how to download my file
@DucTran2: you can still download your entire repl by clicking on the button in your file tree - however, we don't have a way to download a single file yet - unless it's an image or media file. Let me know if you need help finding the download button!
@Tim Chen: I do need help finding that button
Can you show me where is that button to download??
@DucTran2: click on the three dots in the file tree to see the option - see attached screenshot.
@Tim Chen: I am writing Scheme and I cannot find that bar to download in my project
@DucTran2: ahhh sorry about this. We will fix it - in the meantime you can download it by adding .zip to the end of your repl url
