Have a feature for when you need help you can click "Get Live Help".On the repl homepage it will say "User_(random_number) needs help" anyone can join the public session , can live code and chat.
(Upvote if you want to see this feature)
you could use captcha when joining like those I'm not a robot things
Glitch has that
Maybe integrate with "Ask" so posters can send an "Ephemeral Message" (borrowing Slack's words) to a comment, with the ask link. Plus, with persistent multiplayer, the helper (who ever that is) can help even if the other person is offline.
Though, I think this is a great idea, and if you could implement Google Docs' commenting system, with a button to remove all comments by the same person, trolls could probably be evaded.
This should be promoted to specific helpers/trusted people and not just everyone so that they can't mess anything up
You can also check/ask on Stack Overflow
but make sure that moderation is here before, because trolls exist everywhere
This is a really cool idea. That can be a really good improvement to ask. So for now, it could be like adding a repl like to ask?
and then was can improve it, where we can say, this is public repl and 20 rplers are here?
Is that what you're thinking?
@Haya: Thanks for the reply Haya.Yes kinda, ill give an example of how this could work.So when you log in to repl , on the homepage there could be a button saying "Join Public session" when you click on that it will show all different sessions for anyone looking for live help , so for example user_091a from London needs help with python3 and - 2 people are in this session. You click on the join button then you can chat and live code with the user and any other guest user in the chat.If you want to create your own session ,have a maybe a button saying "get live help" and once you click that , you wait for someone to join and then you have the option to you could make it private or kick a user for being distruptive
@Mattykenny_98: Can you tell me more why are you suggesting this idea? or why do you feel that you need it?
@Haya I'm suggesting this because it would be very helpful for anyone learning how to code, when you ask a question online there can be vague results and sometimes you don't even get a result which is related to your question/problem,I feel when you are live chatting with someone, it is easier to go through the code and discuss in chat what you need help with. This needs be added because a live chat support would be very beneficial for anyone that is programming.
@Mattykenny_98: Can you tell me more about your level in coding? and your pervious experience in looking for answers?
@Haya: Well ive been doing python for about a year and ive had difficulties finding answers to certain questions.
@Mattykenny_98: I see, we're adding a new feature to Repl talk, for asking questions and marking answers as best answer, for now maybe this could help a bit. I like the idea of Live Help, we'll see what we can do about it. 😬
Would be very helpful as i'm beginner in coding.
Public sessions would be very helpful ! yes please
@TheCodeMachine: You can already make your session public by sharing the multiplayer link. It will remain public until the host leaves. You could post it to our discord (repl.it/discord for an invite) or to repl.it/talk/share
@Maka: I think what he means a public session without sharing a link. In repl at the moment you can only create public sessions for people that know the link, we would prefer to join sessions without knowing
a specific link.
@Maka: I think using the Discord server should suffice, but maybe have a channel called #i-need-help-right-now where people can post REPL multiplayer links. Some of the current channels have names that hint at getting real-time help, but none actually scream out: "if you want to give or receive real-time help on a REPL, go here!"
@barrycarter1: what about #help-and-reviews ? just ping @Helper and people will (hopefully) come help you ASAP. Maybe you should dm them the multiplayer link so random people can't join and mess everything up
@Scoder12: Yes, #help-and-reviews is definitely one of the "the current channels have names that hint at getting real-time help", but there's no real indication that it's real-time help as opposed to "you should get an answer in a while" help.
I think real-time repl-sharing help is materially different from "please help me w/ stuff when you get a chance" help. But I do agree that the solution here is to create a channel, not add a new feature.
@barrycarter1: It's also a single channel, not many. The live chat would create a new private channel for users to communicate. After their question gets answered, the ticket gets closed and the channel gets archived for logs and removed. (I'm not talking about discord channels, I'm talking about the general idea of a communication channel)
